about

Kevin Kennedy and Matt Weston have been making music together in some form or another for the past 10 years. They met in September 2000 at The University of Western Ontario where Kevin was studying classical guitar and Matt was studying percussion. They received some local success with their riff rock quartet Icewater in the early 2000s before disbanding. Kevin went on to play guitar for Neverending White Lights and Matt studied Audio Recording Technology at London’s OIART.

Never apart for long, the two would collaborate on albums and continue to perform live with Bayfield’s Josh Geddis and London’s Jane Carmichael, both great local folk artists. But by summer of 2009, they were itching for something loud, something heavy, something new.

Early rehearsals between Kevin and Matt were filled with excitement and sweat but lacking in low end. Rather than alter the dynamic and recruit a bass player, Matt brought out his Roland Octapad and hooked it up to his Ampeg fridge of a bass amp. Playing the bass notes with his left hand, while drumming with his right, Matt and Kevin knew this was what they had been looking for. Heavy dance grooves combined with powerful riff rock and catchy melodies, born out of necessity and ingenuity.

Fast forward to Spring 2010. The Dyadics have a whole album of material that they unleash on unsuspecting fans over a mini-tour in southern Ontario. The reaction is incredible and the band decides to capture this energy in the studio over summer. Recording at Matt’s studio in the rural setting of Lucan, ON, the album features some of the heaviest guitar, loudest drums, and nastiest bass you’ve ever heard. Not only that, you’re going to hear soundscapes and sonic architecture like you’ve never heard before. You’re not just listening to a bunch of well crafted and beautifully performed songs, you’re being immersed in the world of The Dyadics. A land where sound is a texture, an animal, and a weapon sonically assaulting you at every turn. Your only option is to strap in, hang on for the ride, and hope you come out the other side!
